Summer in Steamboat

Steamboat is the kind of place where you meet a lot of local people, and many of them told us that, great as Steamboat is in the winter, it's even better in the summer. We found it hard to believe.

And then we visited in the summer...

It's rather strange at first to see a ski resort in summer, looking almost like the fairways of a giant Crazy Golf course draped over the mountains. Breathe the mountain air for a while, though, listen to the summer and you'll be glad you came. There are fewer people around, and the people you meet have time to strike up a conversation, the light is wonderful and there is plenty to enjoy.

What you might not expect

You're in the American West, but these days there are things here that you might not expect to find. Steamboat Springs was once a major railhead for cattle, but the railroad depot is now the headquarters for the Steamboat Springs Arts Council, and the town is home to many galleries and museums.

If you prefer music to visual arts, the acclaimed Strings in The Mountains music festival is celebrating it's 20th anniversary at a permanent home in Steamboat Springs, with a focus on classical chamber music, and concerts including jazz, country, and bluegrass.

Or perhaps you prefer the culinary arts and would like to enjoy cooking classes with a great chef.

Whatever you enjoy doing, Steamboat in summer is a great place to do it.
